Sukuh Temple

This Hindu temple is situated at elevation of 910 meter above sea level in Berjo village.The temple located in Sukuh, Tawang Mangu district about 35 kilometers east direction from Solo, Situated on the slope of Mount Lawu, about 970 meters on the sea level.Sukuh is a temple that has any erotic relief carved on the walls. 

Surrounded by natural beauty environment views. The Temple architect takes a half of pyramidal construction, the rest of glorious Majapahit’s palace. There are a couple man and women painted as a relief on the temple walls.

Built in XV century with pyramide like structure and access to the top of temple. The Candra Sengkala figure symbolize the date it was built. On the third court, erotic figures symbolize the essence teaching. This part also contains figure depicting the story of Garudeya and Sudamala. Today Sukuh temple is mostly used for meditation or personal rituals. The surrounding pine forest provides fesh air creating an atmosphere of tranquility. Cottage and homestay are available near the temple. Take a Solo- Karangpandan bus, then continue with smaller vehicle to Sukuh temple.
